bentART 2016 issues final call for entries

bentART, Australia’s premier LGBTIQ visual arts competition, is calling for final entries from artists for its 12th annual exhibition.

A celebration of visual artists in Australia who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans or intersex, the bentART exhibition is held for four days over the June long weekend at the Wentworth Falls School of Arts.

Artworks are available for sale, with many works sold during the gala opening night event on the Friday evening (June 10). For 2016, there will be cash prizes awarded over four categories: Photography, Painting, Printing and Drawing, and Sculpture and Alternative Media. There will also be a People’s Choice Award.

The overall bentART Award will also be announced on opening night. Previous winners of this prestigious award have included April White, James Blackwell, Ruth le Cheminant, Michael Burge, Pam Hourani and Peter Williamson.

Entries for bentART have grown each year, with more than 50 artists and 130 works exhibiting in 2015. Artists from around Australia enter each year, with a large number coming from the Blue Mountains.

Artists can enter bentART 2016 with up to three artworks at bentart.com.au. Entries are being accepted online until 5pm Friday, May 13. bentART 2016 runs Friday, June 10 to Monday, June 13.
