Dinner date with Penny Wong
ALP political supremo Penny Wong is headed to the mountains for a special fundraising dinner.
Ms Wong, who is Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, will be guest of honour at the Katoomba fundraiser on Saturday, October 3 to raise funds for the campaign of Labor spokesperson for Macquarie Susan Templeman.
Ms Templeman hopes to unseat sitting MP Louise Markus – who has been Member for Macquarie since 2010 – at the next federal election.
As President of Macquarie’s Federal Electoral Council, Ms Templeman will MC the evening, which will be hosted at the Katoomba Community Hall (the former library).
“Although Labor is ahead in the polls, we are not taking anything for granted,” said Ms Templeman.
“The Macquarie electorate will be a crucial seat for us in order to form government.
“That’s why we need your help top make sure there will be a Labor government after the next election.
“So I ask you to come to dinner with Labor’s Leader in the Senate, Penny Wong and raise funds to make sure that the next Federal Member for Macquarie will be a Labor representative.”
Ms Templeman added that Ms Wong would not only speak at the dinner but attendees would have the opportunity to chat with her at the event.
Ms Wong – who served as a member of Cabinet in the Gillard government, and in both Rudd governments – is Australia’s first openly lesbian Australian cabinet minister.
Tickets to the dinner ($80 waged, $40 unwaged/concession) can be purchased at www.susantempleman.com.au/penny.
